Recycle Squared
This week Bloggers Challenge is recycle, reuse. I used the sketch from Critter Sketch Blog to create the card. the challenge at Critter Sketch is "It's hip to be square." When I explain the history of the recycle part of my card, my sisters are going to laugh and everyone else who follows Bloggers Challenge will think that all I do is go out and eat since all my recycling has to do with food. First, the little squares behind Frida are cut from a paper napkin and plasticware holder that was used in a Mexican restaurant that I went to with my sisters. My reputation for saving cute things from restaurants resulted in my getting the cute paper rings from everyone. The picture above right shows the paper ring open before I cut out my squares. Now you have to admit that they are eye-catching. Well, the Mexican motif then led me to the stamp sheet from Oxford Impressions, El Corazon, with Frida Kahlo. It may be hard to see on the scan, but Frida is wearing a cream colored pearl necklace with the dimensional pearl made from Viva Pearl Pen in cream. My background panel was made by spraying a red Radiant Rain spray over the plastic mesh recycled from a box of oranges. See, more food. This actually is a technique from the April 2008 Technique Junkies newsletter call Mesh Direct. I really like the bright cheeriness of this card.

Terrific reuse-recycle. Excellent idea. Beautifully created, Barbara.
I bow in homage -- you truly embody GREEN! Great card and I think it is all the better that food was involved. Suits me just fine!
Great use of techniques and recycled products...just another good reason for me to eat out this weekend ;-)!
Great use of the napkin ring holders. Love the theme of your project. I remember reading about this lady somewhere. I think Selma Hayek did a movie where she portrayed Frida.
Terrific card Barbara! I think that it's wonderful that you can be inspired while going out to eat! Wonderfully done! :D
