Oh Alice Challenge Chapter 20

Yes, Wonderland has gone red, white, and blue. And that's this week's challenge at Oh Alice. To make this card I chose my image from the Artistic Outpost Wonderland Collage sheet. I used Creative Inspirations paints to color the image. I love the shimmer they give to the image. I did cheat a little by using a silver marker for the crown and sceptre. Well, silver is a white metal. The background is a dull blue cardstock that was enhanced with a Tim Holtz texture fades embossing folder and highlighted with silver Brilliance ink.

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge 86

This week the movie challenge at Cinema Saturday was Bend It Like Beckham. Although I haven't seen the movie, I read a number of reviews and watched trailers on Youtub. It's about a teenage girl who is a very talented soccer player. She wants to play on a team, but her traditional Punjabi parents are against her playing team sports and want her to follow tradition--go to law school, find an Indian boyfriend, and learn to cook traditional Indian food. Of course there is also a non-traditinal love interest. The challenge is to create somethng inspired by something in the movie. The additional challenge is that we are to create any shape but A2.
Although the crop shadow look like my card has square corners, it is actually the shape of the soccer ball, round. My card represents the conflict between tradition--the Indian symbols and her dreams of playing soccer. The soccer ball is a digital image from the Internet. The stamped images are fromStampsmith's Passage to India sheet.

Just for Fun Challenge #18

Maybe it was too many firecrackers this weekend, but I was in a crazy mood when I worked on the Just for Fun challenge. I got out my Artistic Outpost Steampunk stamps and my Creative Inspirations paints and just had fun. The challenge was to use purple, green, and blue. I chose purple for the man's suit, as well as the background. The trees and grass are green and the sky is blue as well as the eyes. To paint the sky I used a stippling stroke for cloud texture. The guy in the sky has blue eyes and highlighting his glasses, I used oval fragments from Tim Holtz's Idea-ology line. It gives him a fun look

Play Date Cafe Challenge 36

The challenge at Play Date Cafe this week was a two fold one. The  official challenge is to use the colors red, white, and pink. The design team added a little inside challenge which is to use the Tim Holtz birdcage die. Because I used several dimensional objects on my card, I had to photograph the card and as many of you know, photography is not one of my strengths. For the background I used paper from Tim Holtz's paper stack, Vintage Shabby in pink. The birdcage and hanger (a portion of the hanging sign) are from Tim Holtz's alterations line. The birdcage is hung from the hanger by a hitch. The birdcage is diecut from a red metallic cardstock and looks so much better than it photographs. I added a little paper lace to the bottom with pearl and crysal hearts. The little fairy is from Stampotique and is colored using the Copic expressions technique from the current Technique Junkies newsletter. The sentiment is from Stampers Anonymous, the Tim Holtz line. Both the fairy's wings and the hanger are highlighted with Stickles. The background and elements are layered on a lighter pink card base. I'm really happy with the way this turned out.

Bloggers Challenge 158

This week's Bloggers Challenge theme is patriotic. I really enjoyed creating this card. The stripes are cut and attached to a backer sheet run through the Xyron. The sheet was embossed in the stars Cuttlebug folder and the stars were highlighted in silver Brilliance ink. The image is from the Artistic Outpost stamp sheet She-roes. The image is painted with Creative Inspirations paints. "Freedom" is stencilled from a Club Scrap stencil. Happy 4th of July everyone.

Created By Hand Challenge 06-29-2010

The challenge theme at Created Byhand is to create art using the theme of “Red…the New Black” in some way, shape, or fashion. To create the image portion of my card, I stamped the fireworks, Northwoods, in versamark and embossed them. I then sprayed the sheet with Red Jasper Radiant Rains and wiped it with a paper towel. I rubbed over the individual fireworks with Distress Rock Candy Stickles to give the highlight and sparkle. The card base is a piece of cardstock with red print from Club Scrap. The sentiment is from the Artistic Outpost Heroes set. The stars are from my stash. The card has much more shimmer and sparkle in real life.

Just for Fun Challenge #17

This week the Just for Fun Fridays challenge is to use the colors pink, green, and cream or white in our art. I chose to use a rose bud from the Kitchen Sink Stamps set Hearts & Roses. The sentiment is from the Hibiscus set. The background mat is embossed with a Cuttlebug border folder. I love the combination of these colors.
Color recipes: all inks used are Adirondack unless otherwise noted
Roses: 1 angel pink (Memento), 2 shell pink, 3 pink sherbert, 4 raspberry
Leaves: 1 willow, 2 lettuce, 3 meadow
